The Minecraft Travelogue: The Unfortunate Fire: Day 100

Seven witches are destroying this world by raising an army of undead warriors. My job is to hunt and kill them. Perhaps killing these witches will restore balance to the world.

Five witches have been slayed: two more remain.

This is my journey. My only goal is to tell a good story.

Day 100

My arch was finished. It was time to move on, to continue west. I made it across the vast Orange Ocean, I built this great arch, but my quest has been derailed.

I need to hunt down these witches. Did they make it to this continent as well? Two more witches remain, resurrecting evil by the night.

During the day, I packed my supplies and figured out what I could carry and what I had to leave behind.

It started thundering and lightning, a portent of the night to come. After I encumbered Lightning, I departed, but immediately, found threats!

My enemies were here! I jumped off Lightning and let her roam while I prepared for battle.

From my vantage point on top of the arch, I saw more and more monsters approaching. I was surrounded on all sides!

I climbed down and readied myself. The skeleton archers were furious, so I hopped and dodged more than attacked.

But the archers brought something I didn’t anticipate: flaming arrows. I dodged an arrow, but at what cost? It struck the arch, and that was the end. The dry wood quickly caught flame, and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

All my work, literally up in flames. I looked across the Orange Ocean one last time, wondering if I made a mistake coming here. But it’s too late to go back now.

Throughout the battle, I tried to reconnect with Lightning. She was scared, running here and there, sometimes into the fire. I couldn’t watch her, fight my enemies, and put out the fire at the same time.

So I settled for none of those. I was paralyzed with shock.

And to make matters worse, the Endermen showed up. They stole blocks from my arch, looting it right before my eyes. Their screams mocked me. Someday, I would kill them too. But I was too tired, too hungry, too weak at the moment.

The fires were dying down. I mounted Lightning and left my home. One tower was completely consumed, the other badly damaged.

And one final insult. Less than 100 meters away from the arch it was raining. If only the clouds of fortune had blown over my arch!

So I pointed my nose west and started walking. No more looking back.
